| Joseph S. Weisman, M.D. is a graduate of
the United States Air Force Academy and Duke University School of Medicine. After
completing medical school, Dr. Weisman entered active duty in the Air Force in return for
a full scholarship through college and medical school. Dr. Weisman then performed an
Internal Medicine internship and subsequent residency training in Ophthalmology at Wilford
Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, the largest military teaching hospital in the
country. Next, he spent a year at UCLA for fellowship training in the subspecialty
field of neuro-ophthalmology. Dr. Weisman returned to the teaching faculty at
Wilford Hall in 1988 as the Chief of Neuro-Ophthalmology and successfully achieved
certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Since 1990, he served as the
Program Director for the Ophthalmology Residency Program. Major (Lieutenant Colonel
Selectee) Weisman completed his active duty service commitment and was honorably
discharged from the Air Force in the summer of 1994. Dr. Weisman moved to Roanoke
in August 1994 where he established the Blue Ridge Eye Center. Dr. Weisman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of The Medical Society of Virginia and the Roanoke Valley Academy of Medicine. He has hospital privileges at Community Hospital, Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and Lewis Gale Hospital. |
